287 I'd actually rate this a 4+. I really like the story line. It's a very believable one. Good characters, although one of the ex-military characters is a bit lame (hopefully that will change as the series goes on). Basically good, relatively average people and their response to an end of the world as we know it event. Makes you think about how fragile civilization really is. At times I think the characters are a bit too passive, in reality, it's probably more accurate than the typical post-apocalyptic books with larger than life characters.I found the book easy to read, yet also felt compelled not to put it down. I bought the second book within 10 minutes of finishing this one and started reading immediately. If you want hard core post-apocalyptic books, this may not be for you, but I think most people could enjoy this. I know I did and I've enjoyed some really hard core PA books as well. So, take that however you like. It has my recommendation.
